Astonishing Productivity Apps for Forward-Looking CPA Businesses

With businesses climbing deeper into the “cloud” every day it can get tricky to stay abreast with the frenetic pace of technological change. Technology can actually make your life much less difficult and more productive. Check out some of my favorite applications to get you started.

Launchy

This is an tool I can’t survive without, and I guarantee you’ll feel the same way after you install it. After using this application for a few weeks I began to marvel at how it didn’t come standard as a basic tool as a part of every Operating System. All you are required to do is hold down alt and press space to launch it. Then you merely start typing. For instance, if I wanted to open Adobe Photoshop I would start typing “p… h… o… ” and then Launchy would start suggesting applications to launch. Then I just have to click on the program I need and it’ll open right away. Better yet, Launchy learns your shortcut preferences. Soon, you’ll only have to type “F” to open Firefox. Any productivity tools that grant you more time to work on your accounting website will certainly be beneficial. Launchy also has add-on tools that you can explore. Soon enough you’ll be trying to use “alt + space” on someone else’s computer and cursing them out for not having Launchy installed!

WinSplit Revolution

The best window organization utility going. Quickly organize your workspace in a nice highly visible grid without anything overlapping. This is reminiscent of the ability to left and right dock windows as in Windows 7. This can be useful when working on client files, reading up on the latest marketing tool, working on your accountant website, viewing competitors’ sites, and emailing clients all at the same time. If you spend too much time dragging windows around in order to view everything on your monitor(s) without having any windows hiding, then this app is certainly for you.

UltraMon

This app is great for those of us who use multiple monitors but still need ten more! It can be frustrating to have multiple monitors but to have a cramped taskbar that is confined to one monitor. An expanded task bar would be ideal simply for organizational purposes. UltraMon extends your taskbar to all of your monitors and also adds many useful multi-monitor options. One of my favorite features (probably bad for productivity, but great for aesthetics) would be the wallpaper options. UltraMon adds amazing control over the desktop background, easily allowing fully spanning images across however many monitors you may have, or even a different image for all of them. You can even save custom preferences for screen savers and desktop icons.

TeamViewer

Easily the best application for remote access and remote support. As always, we love a free app, but this one has some other small perks. One of them being the lack of an annoying desktop driver. Team Viewer allows you to create a free account to keep track of all your machines. Simply select from Remote control, file transfer or VPN and connect. It’s worth noting that you can also direct a client to their site to download the quick installer and quickly generate an ID and password in order to perform remote support sessions.

Dropbox

Nowadays everyone is or should be using online storage solutions. With Dropbox, you can sync your application across multiple devices, making it extremely accessible. You can also share files and folders with others. While the best CPA website design solutions already provide file sharing tools, Dropbox is a real lifesaver for many firms that are trying to get through busy tax seasons without access to this amazing technology. They commence their complimentary plans with 2 Gigs of file storage space and propose effortless ways of gaining more free space by watching educational videos and referring friends (as much as 8 Gigabytes total).

Dropbox also offers 50 Gigs for about $100 and 100,000 MBs for about $200 a year.
